The Irkutsk Plant of Polymers (ISP) is the first Russian plant in Siberia to produce polymers from ethane. Production will be provided with its own raw materials. The project is implemented since 2014. More than 400 billion rubles was invested in the development of deposits, the construction of industrial, engineering and transport infrastructure. What are the goals of the project and what is the need?

The CPI is a subsidiary of the Irkutsk oil company (INC). This is one of the largest independent oil and gas producing companies in the Russian Federation. The key business is the search and mining of oil, geological study, production of gas condensate and natural gas. The Irkutsk Oil Company implements a gas utilization project.

According to the standards of Russian and world giants, Inc. is relatively young. The company was formed in 2000 as an union of builders and geologists. In less than a year, 30 thousand tons of oil and gas condensate were able to produce in less than a year.

The main problem with which a young company faced is the lack of infrastructure. Inc attracted major investors to implement projects. The first partner was Sberbank. In 2007, the first subsidiary was created with the Japanese National Corporation for Oil, Gas and Metals (Jogmec). In 2008, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was included in the shareholders of INC.

Inc. invests in an expensive project of the polymer plant. Such a step is characteristic of industrial giants. But the company promises to show big results. The production capacity of the ICP is 650,000 tons of commercial products per year. The company will create 1500 jobs. After commissioning, the GRP of the Irkutsk region will grow by 3%. Produced polymers will be used in mechanical engineering, medicine, heavy and light industry.

The company was looking for a solution for a strategic task. It consisted in the most efficient use of large reserves of natural and associated petroleum gas (PNG). Raw materials were not in demand in Siberia due to the lack of adjustable logistics, infrastructure and export market.
