Apple transfers iPhone production to India
- May 23
As part of the MAKE in India program, Apple plans to ultimately withdraw its production units from China and begin production in India. Apple has instructed the manufacturers with whom she provides outsourcing that the technological giant wants to move from China, referring to the strict position of Beijing to combat pandemia, as well as a number of other factors.
The report also states that countries such as India and Vietnam, where an insignificant part of Apple products is produced around the world, will probably become the most popular countries that producing corporations consider China as an alternative.
According to estimates, independent contractors produce more than 90% of Apple products, such as iPhone, iPad and MacBook computers in China. The communist regime of Beijing and conflicts with the US government - these are a few more reasons why Apple wants to transfer its production facilities outside the country.
According to those who are familiar with Apple production plans, the company considers India as the next China due to the large population and low costs.
With the exception of India, China has the largest reserve of qualified workers compared to other Asian countries. Apple is working closely with local authorities in China to guarantee that its production contractors have enough land, personnel and materials for assembling the iPhone and other devices at their large factories.
Before the pandemic spread around the world at the beginning of 2020, Apple was already trying to withdraw its production units from China, but the pandemic prevented all plans. According to people familiar with the negotiations, Apple again insists on his own and indicates to the contractors where they should look for new production capacities, and primarily prefers India and Vietnam.
Due to the restrictions on traveling to China, Apple was able to send only a few managers and engineers to the country to evaluate the production capacities of their contractors. A limited number of engineers and managers meant that Apple could not appreciate these enterprises as carefully as she would like.
In addition, serious interruptions in the supply of electricity in some areas of large industrial centers of China, as well as a policy of combating pandemia in Shanghai, which caused problems with supply chains, also spoiled the reputation of China as a reliable supplier.
