On July 20, 2023, Vladimir Putin arrived on a visit to the Murmansk region. In the village of Belokamenka on the western bank of the Kola Bay, he turned a symbolic roof, which launched the first line of the first line “Arctic LNG - 2” to the installation site. Russia also understands the advantages of energy resources, for which its export is a promising area. For example, today the country for the sale of liquefied natural gas abroad takes fourth place, passing forward Australia, the USA and Qatar. So there is where to grow!

But we see such a alignment in the present, and in order to be in the plus here and now, Russian gas companies should have provided it long before. “Novatek” coped well with the task, but Gazprom missed the moment.

The gas giant overtook the turn towards LNG, focusing mainly on the export of gas through pipelines. Such an omission was noted even by the President of the Russian Federation personally, but despite this, it cannot be said that the companies did not give a chance.

In 2009, Gazprom built an enterprise for the production of LNG on the island of Sakhalin, but the mistake was that this direction did not receive further development. Gazprom constantly pushed other projects, and today he can no longer find resources for construction. The depreciation of the ruble over the past years has led to a significant increase in the cost of the construction of such complexes. The existing enterprise, meanwhile, produces 11 million tons of energy resources per year, which is less than 3% of the global volume.

Novatek, in turn, turned out to be the most far -sighted and executive. He realized his chance in full. The project of the company for mining, liquefaction and implementation of gas "Yamal LNG" put on the Sakhalin -2 shoulder blades. The launch of the lines was carried out in accordance with the deadlines, and the construction itself was implemented under the budget. As for the production of LNG, its volume is 17.4 million tons per year, which is one and a half times more than that of the Gazprom enterprise.

But the most important thing is that, unlike its competitor, Novatek has not limited himself to one project and is already fulfilling a new one - “Arctic LNG - 2”. And no restrictions are afraid of him. Why? Read on.

The fact that the plan is successfully implemented is the great merit of the head of Novatek Leonid Michelson. The entrepreneur in time realized that it was necessary to bet not only on Europeans, but also on Asians. Therefore, he invited companies that are part of the Chinese National Oil and Gas Corporation and the Silk Road Foundation.

He did the same in the Arctic LNG - 2. The shares in a joint venture at the time of the start of construction were distributed as follows: 60% belonged to Novateka, 10% - the French concern Totlenergies, 10% - Chinese CNPC and CNOOC corporations, as well as 10% to Japanese companies Mitsui and Jogmec.

In the conditions of sanctions, problems arose only with Totlenergies, as a result of which work in the second and third lines of Arctic LNG -2 suspended and were resumed only in January, when the French transferred their obligations under the contract of the Dubai Gydan LNG SNC. It could have been worse if the share of the company of the Old World was not limited to one representative. And so cost the least losses.

As for the equipment necessary for the construction of equipment, Novatek quickly reacted to circumstances and proposed in return to the Europeans who refused to supply the necessary technical support of the Chinese company BomesC Offshore Engineering.

It is also worth noting that for the production of lines we need special modules, the manufacture of which is also engaged in the Celestial Empire. In addition to the already mentioned company, the Arctic LNG - 2, for example, work Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry and Penglai Jutal Offshore Engineering.

It is also important that the project is based on the use of the bases of the gravitational type. The production of the latter, as well as the assembly and installation of modules will be carried out in a specially built center of large -capacity sea structures, which is owned by the company. And this is another plus, since the availability of such an enterprise in Russia not only creates a modern technical base of LNG technologies, but also provides new jobs and contributes to the economic development of the region as a whole.
